| Gas responses to energy and environmental challenges |
| According to IEA, natural gas will play a key role in the next 25 years to meet worldwide energy needs. For environmental reasons, natural gas demand will grow everywhere in the world to substitute to either coal or fuel oil, which could lead to more pressure on gas supply by the end. Unconventional gas will bring more potential, but what is the state of knowledge regarding the assessment of this resource? What are the current estimated reserves? Will they be sufficient to meet the demand? Is it a matter of investments or physical availability of resources? |

Workshop 1 |
11h30-13h00 |
| Gas: vital for sustainable mobility |
| The performance of gas (VNG, LPG) in terms of transport is indisputable, but what are the main features of these alternative fuels, which are supposedly less polluting? How will they become established as a truly sustainable solution in decades to come? Is the current context favourable in terms of development? Will we see further projects coming on line? What contribution might we expect from the emergence of new sectors? |
Moderated by > Joel Pedessac, General manager, CFBP
Speakers:

Workshop 2 |
11h30-13h00 |
| What intelligence for tomorrow’s energy networks? |
| Control and optimization of energy demand can be achieved through a better intelligence of distribution networks and metering systems. Which data could be exchanged? Which features can be introduced? How will the remote data collection work ? How soon is it conceivable to generalize it? Beyond smart metering, what kind of innovations can we expect on network operation? What would be the benefits for the consumers? |
Moderated by > Pascal Vercamer, Research programme manager, GDF SUEZ

Workshop 3 |
11h30-13h00 |
| RT 2012… and beyond: what technology-based innovations? |
| RT 2012 applies to new construction, and is entering its concrete phase. How will the gas sector respond to the objectives contained in the new regulations? In addition to this, what contribution can the gas industry make in terms of solutions to support the planned sustainable upgrade of existing buildings? What innovations is the gas industry working on in response to energy performance objectives, which will necessarily be more stringent after RT 2012? |

Workshop 4 |
11h30-13h00 |
| GNL |
| LNG is mainly known in France for being regasified in methane terminals and then injected into the transport network. Therefore, given its numerous benefits, LNG could be used directly as fuel to replace fuel oil for land and sea transport. To achieve this, it is necessary to make some changes to the various links in the LNG chain in order to boost operational, economical and environmental performance. What approaches are industrialists adopting to meet these challenges? What is the minimum desirable level of harmonisation between LNG installations throughout the world? |

Round table 2 |
15h00-16h15 |
| Gas markets changes: what are consumers’ expectations? |
| Now that the process of the opening energy market has started, how do consumers deal with the possibilities they are presented with? Are bulk-buying groups an effective solution in order to have an influence on negotiations? What are the other elements which are taken into account by consumers? Apart from looking for the best deal, what are their other issues of concern? To what extent do consumers integrate environmental aspects in their choice of suppliers? What are the policies implemented so as to protect small and vulnerable consumers? What could be the contribution of smart metering? |

Round table 3 |
16h45-18h00 |
| Strategies of energy groups |
| One common feature of energy groups that currently count on the global chess board is of course their size that can be assessed at several dozen billion euros, and hundreds of thousands of jobs. The giant size of these energy groups is sometimes the result of mergers and acquisitions undertook so as to enlarge their business activities on each part of the value chain, as well as to diversify their proposals of goods and services: gas, electricity, environmental services, energy services... This round table enables us to examine more into detail the strategies pursued by some of them. Has the recent economic crisis curbed the initiated strategies or to the contrary speeded up their pursuit? |
